The First Ever Run Ozaukee

The first annual Run Ozaukee

First of all I want to thank both Erik Hailing and Dan Jones for putting a herculean effort into the coordination and details of this event that has been tossed around as a great idea for many years.  If you are not able to run, but would like to help with support or to help in some other way or just run part of the course please make sure to let Dan or Erik know also.  Without further delay read below:

Hello Run Ozaukee Runners,

We have an exciting announcement! Run Ozaukee is establishing its own unique event, “The Run Ozaukee,” in which we run across Ozaukee County on the Interurban Trail. Please see the attached flier for high-level event details, and consult the race guide linked here for course details. Do not miss out on the inaugural running of our big event!

The event is intended to be fun and social. It is designed as a team run with four legs of different lengths to accommodate all runners in our group. Run it as a single, two-person, three-person, or four-person team depending on how many miles you want to take on. Here are some highlights:

  • Saturday, November 10, 2018 – 7:00AM start at the Ozaukee/Sheboygan county line
  • Four legs (10.0, 8.0, 5.1, and 6.1 miles) totaling 29.2 miles
  • Finish line at Ozaukee/Milwaukee county line
  • Party at Spanky’s Hideaway immediately following finish
  • $20 per person to defray expenses
  • Contact Dan Jones ([email protected]) and Erik Halling ([email protected]) with questions or to register

We hope to have a big turnout for the event. Hope you can make it!

Weekly Update 10.25.18

Color Run

It is that wonderful time of year when apples and pumpkins are everywhere and most of our runs can be filled with incredible colors.  There is something fun each turn of the season to putting on a long sleeve to cut the chill that is in the air when you step off in the morning.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Kaehler’s Mill Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

The Run Ozaukee: You will be getting another email shortly with more information about our first ever “Run Ozaukee.”  This has been in conversation for years, and we are going to try our first go at the Run Ozaukee this fall, where we have a relay from one end of Ozaukee County to the other in small teams.  More details to come, but this is your official teaser.

Race Congrats: Congratulations to our fall 50 runners: Doug, Lexi, Kati, Juan, Keith C, and Rosa.  Also a huge congrats to Nicki who ran all 50 herself!!!

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update 10.18.18

Fall is here!!!

It seems that fall is in full swing, one of my favorite times to run with cool but often not cold weather.  I wanted to share with you all another uplifting story, because well, we all could use more of that in our lives.  Runner’s World shares the story of a disabled runner who found both community, and encouragement from a local run club, that she can do far more than people ever imagined.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Rustic Road Route.”  It should be a great time of year to enjoy all the colors on that scenic route.  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Good luck to Doug, Kati, Lexi, Juan, Rosa, and Nicky who will all be at the Fall 50 this weekend.  Represent Run Ozaukee well, and have a blast!!!

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update 10.11.18

We get to do this

First of all I want to say congratulations to all of those who completed marathons this past weekend!!!  As always just to toe the start and cross the finish lines is doing something that a very small % of people have ever done, so enjoy the accomplishment.  It is a humbling reminder that we get to do this, that we are blessed with bodies, and resources so that we can run these races and enjoy this journey together.

As a great reminder of this, Nike made a surprise appearance at a University of Oregon cross country meet, with a huge surprise for one special athlete, who takes very seriously the blessing of running.  Grab some tissues and take two minutes to watch it.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Grafton Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!
