June 6- National Running Day

Happy National Running Day!!!

Today is National Running Day!!!  There are lots of great causes and organizations doing great promotions or giveaways today, so be sure to check them out. No matter what you do today, celebrate that you are getting this email because you are a runner.  You get off the couch lace up your shoes and put one foot in front of the other for your health, sanity, charity, and more incredible reasons that drive each of us.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head South on the “Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  It is about 12 miles long, but is mostly a out and back route, which allows for adding and subtracting mileage fairly easily.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Spring Cleaning our mailing list: This is your last email from our current 2017 mailing list.  Next week our emails will be sent to our 2018 mailing list.  If you have not signed up to get those emails, please use the link in the “Spring cleaning” words to sign up.

Hydration drive:  Our group has no membership fees, and it is because of the generosity of all of you who donate water, Gatorade, and more for our water stops.  If you are able, please donate a case of water or Gatorade on June 9th, or 16th.  You can just bring those supplies to the group on Saturday, and I will add them to our collection that is used all year long.  We have a little water left in our reserves from last year, but are very low on Gatorade.  Thanks to all those who have already donated!

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Hydrate, hydrate, but don’t over hydrate!!!

I share because recently it was shown that an issue in my last two races was both low sodium levels in my blood, likely compounded if not caused by too much water. In the heat we sweat more than just water out, and if we are not replacing it with other nutrition, we are diluting what remains in our blood stream, which can impact performed and in serious cases, health.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Grafton Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Spring Cleaning our mailing list: Each year we clean out our mailing list to ensure that those getting this emails really are the ones wanting to be in the loop. If you can use the link to confirm your desire to keep getting these emails before June 10th, as after that we will be using our new mailing list for all communication.

Hydration drive:  Starting our Saturday June 2nd will be the first of three weeks of our hydration drive.  Our group has no membership fees, and it is because of the generosity of all of you who donate water, Gatorade, and more for our water stops.  If you are able, please donate a case of water or Gatorade on June 2nd, 9th, or 16th.  You can just bring those supplies to the group on Saturday, and I will add them to our collection that is used all year long.  We have a little water left in our reserves from last year, but are very low on Gatorade.  Thanks in advance for your donations.

Ride the roller coaster!!!

First of all thank you to all those who reached out this week about my race, it was an incredible encouragement to know you all were behind me, and although it turned it that I have been struggling with a sodium deficiency as I race, it is still another marathon in the books, with another schedule for mid September, because well, I am a glutton for punishment.

First a race opportunity coming up:
Due to injury of two team members, Green Bay relay team entry for sales at a discount.

The race is May 20th, 2018.

Please contact Christina O’Connor for more information. ([email protected] of 414 841 5770)

Weekly Update April 26

Spring is Here….maybe

It finally feels like running weather outside, and that spring is really coming!!!  Good luck this week to both Doug and Juan on the Illinois Marathon, and Rosa as she runs the Deer Run 10k this weekend!!!

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Rustic Road Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Also another offer from a local fitness partner per Doug:

Ryan Murphy, Form and Fitness-Grafton, Director of Personal Training, has provided the following opportunity for our Run Ozaukee membership.

I will give everyone that is in Run Ozaukee an opportunity to try out a team training and a small group training session for free, and give them an opportunity to sign up for any membership and receive a free month at the end of the 12 or 24 months.  Please attach my e-mail to your mailing list.  If they are interested in taking advantage of this they will need to email me at,[email protected], with Name, e-mail, and phone number (so I can check if they are in the system and add as a prospect if needed).

Attached is the Schedule for Team Training and Small Group Training.

  • Small Group (SGT) is a great cross training program for runners to get them moving more efficiently.  It is a session limited to 4 participants, which allows our coaches to focus on each participant’s proper form and technique through strength movements.  In these sessions, you train how our coaches train pushing your limits to become stronger and move better longer.
  • Team Training (TT) is a high intensity fitness session that allows large groups to get in the best shape of their lives.  Each session will be a total body workout that will improve your strength, cardiovascular endurance, and your ability to move well.

What everyone will get
1.)  Two free Specialty Training Sessions (good for Small Group or Team Training)
2.)  One Free month of either program if they join
3.)  50% off enrollment fee if they are a new member

Ryan mentioned, everyone will get 2 free specialty training sessions.  If we have several people that would like to partake, they would have space in the Team Training sessions (14/week).  We could target the following two dates for a larger group turn-out.  Otherwise, this is an opportunity that any Run Ozaukee member can use at any time that best fits their individual schedule.

1.)  Tuesday, May 8th @ 6:00 pm
2.)  Thursday, May 10th @ 6:00 pm
3.)  A one-time Sunday afternoon option, provided there is sufficient interest.

Run, Run, Run: Spring is traditionally race time, so please let us know what races are on your schedule, so we can cheer you on!!!

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!
