Weekly Update February 1st

Groundhog Day!!!

As I post this we are on the brink of annual Groundhog Day.  I am not sure if Punxsutawney Phil really has the inside scoop on the winter weather, but Friday morning there will be a crowd wondering if Phil thinks winter is nearing it’s end of if we are just getting started.

As we make our way through what can be a winter grind training, I found a funny-because-it’s-true article on Runner’s World about keeping the flame of romance alive with your running.  I also am biased to Mark Parent, and find his writing very entertaining most of the time, so check it out.

Last fun update, we are finalizing gear choices for a winter Run Ozaukee merchandise order, so be looking for an email hopefully in the next week with some great Run Ozaukee Running gear that we are ordering through our partner T2 promotions.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Kaehler’s Mill Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

This is a basic out and back which is almost 12 miles if you go all the way, but has many natural places to turn around for whatever distance you want to run!!

Race time!!! Many of you are signing up for races of all types and kinds, and I encourage you to share those, both so we can cheer you on, and to share as you meet others over the weekend in case others want to learn more, or meet up with you there for a beer!!

Weekly Update January 18

It will be above zero Saturday!!!

No more weather talk, because it appears I curse it just by talking, but it will be north of zero degrees Saturday, likely by a margin so good running weather.  In the snowy winter months in Wisconsin training can be hard, so I wanted to share a short article that Craig Toerpe sent along that is really helpful in terms of thinking about strength training in the winter.  Be sure to give it a read.

I am hoping that your early parts of the New Year have been encouraging as you take on your fitness and health goals and make sure to have fun and give yourself grace on the road.  Wisconsin winters are not build for the best speed work, or perfect footing, and requires us to adapt and adjust our training regularly, so have fun with it!!! (Yes running up and down the Meekwon sled hill with children, and sleds is good cross training in case you wondered).

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “John Taylor Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.  Thanks to Doug for setting our the water buckets this week!!

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!
