Weekly Update January 11, 2018

Third time is a charm?

After back to back weeks that have been called off due to incliment weather, we are looking good to go for this weekend.  As we kick off the year, it is a time that many of you will set goals or sign up for races, and it made me think back to when I first became a runner.

For those of you watch the show, “Fixer Upper,” the name Chip Gaines is familiar, but for those of you who don’t Chip and his wife Joann are a uber popular couple who have their own show on HGTV.  Chip has signed up for running his first marathon, after meeting a professional runner a number of months ago.  I would encourage you to read his story, and remember your early miles, your first 5k, your first mile you ran without stopping.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Grafton Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update January 4th, 2018

Polar Vortex is the word of the day….

After cancelling our group run last Saturday for dangerously cold Wind Chill, the polar vortex has decided to hang around all week sadly.  Hopefully this has been a good time for you to rest up the legs, or do some cross training, or head to the gym to get some miles in.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the weather is questionable, but here is the plan.  We will plan to meet and run per usual, with the route below.  Watch social media and your email, as I will try to make a call if we need to cancel by Saturday dinner time.  We have no official cold weather policy, but last week was easy as there was Wind Chill advisories that said no more than 30 minutes of exposed skin outside.  If the WC is again in the advisory/warning range we will have no formal group run.  We are also working to establish a cold weather policy for ease of planning for all of you also.

Weekly Update September 19th

Taper time!!!

For those running either Lakefront of the Chicago Marathon your longest long runs are now behind you and the taper begins.  This weird in between land where you counter intuitively run less as you ready your body to run even more.  For me it means setting the alarm a little later as my mileage is less, and shorter weekend runs, but either way, enjoy for those of you tapering right now!!!

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Cedar Creek Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Lakefront Marathon Water Stop: Just a reminder that we will be leading the mile 20 water stop as a run group again this year as we have in years past.  To sign up to help with that please head to: http://waterstopvolunteers2017.zapevent.com.  It is a great chance to encourage runners at a place in the race they can use a pick me up.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads on Saturday!!!

Weekly Update September 13

Race time is upon us!!

Congrats first of all to Rosa and Diana on completing the Wisconsin Iron man this past weekend!!! What an incredible accomplishment, that is a reflection of all the hard work you have put in.  This is race time for many of you, from trail run, relays, and 5k up to marathons.  Enjoy your training, and all the hard work you are putting in to prepare for whatever goals you have your eyes set on.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “John Taylor Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.  The route is a little more than 10 miles.

Bonus miles: This weekend I will be running 20 miles for my last really long run before my fall race, so if anyone is wanting to run before our group starts for some bonus early miles, please send me an email ([email protected]) or text me if you want to also put in some early miles.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

That’s right for many fall races the next few weeks are times when people willingingly run 20+ miles as they prepare their bodies for 26.2 miles on race day!!  As we have in the past we will be parterning with Concordia University’s marathon runners for a 20 miles build up run on Saturday.  There will be no gathering or Run Ozaukee at Sal’s in Cedarburg, but instead will be meeting at Concordia.  See the below email from Erik Halling, and be sure to RSVP to Erik: [email protected].

Additionally Run Ozaukee will again be again be staffing a water stop on the marathon route.  The Race is Sunday October 1st, and we will run the aid station near mile 21.  For more information, and to RSVP your willingness to serve, please contact: [email protected]
Hello all!!!

We would like to put together one final long run for everyone before Lakefront.
Traditionally we have assembled at the Mequon Concordia campus and ran down the marathon route, finishing at the Milwaukee Art Museum (20ish miles).  We will then bring everyone back to campus.

I know this is sort of last minute but we were hoping to do this on Saturday Sept 9th, starting at 7:00 AM(arrive at 6:30).
If you are interested and will be joining us please respond to me (Erik) so we can get an accurate count of runners.

We need an accurate count for:
Providing enough fluids along the route
Having enough space in return vehicles back to campus
Making sure everyone is accounted for along the route

Again, please respond to this email if you would like to join us for the run.
We are looking forward to having a fun group!
Let me know if you have any questions.
See you all soon.
