It is that time of year that in races in the Midwest start happening with more and more frequency, and for many of you, your training has some specific goals and races in mind as you run each day.  That being said, some of our runners will need or want to run more than the weekly 7am route offers each week.  If that is the case for you, feel free to reach out to myself (Bill) or Doug Temple if you are interested in getting together for additional miles on a Saturday.

Weekly Update February 1st

Groundhog Day!!!

As I post this we are on the brink of annual Groundhog Day.  I am not sure if Punxsutawney Phil really has the inside scoop on the winter weather, but Friday morning there will be a crowd wondering if Phil thinks winter is nearing it’s end of if we are just getting started.

As we make our way through what can be a winter grind training, I found a funny-because-it’s-true article on Runner’s World about keeping the flame of romance alive with your running.  I also am biased to Mark Parent, and find his writing very entertaining most of the time, so check it out.

Last fun update, we are finalizing gear choices for a winter Run Ozaukee merchandise order, so be looking for an email hopefully in the next week with some great Run Ozaukee Running gear that we are ordering through our partner T2 promotions.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “Kaehler’s Mill Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Weekly Update January 25, 2018

Warm run Saturday

Please note, if the weather people are correct, it will be in the upper 30s to low 40s Saturday, so grab your shoes and a friend, and come ready to run!!!  But if the weather turns again here are some great cold weather running tips from other runners.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head east on the “Grafton Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also. This is a basic out and back which is almost 12 miles if you go all the way, but has many natural places to turn around for whatever distance you want to run!!

Race time!!! Many of you are signing up for races of all types and kinds, and I encourage you to share those, both so we can cheer you on, and to share as you meet others over the weekend in case others want to learn more, or meet up with you there for a beer!!

Weekly Update January 18

It will be above zero Saturday!!!

No more weather talk, because it appears I curse it just by talking, but it will be north of zero degrees Saturday, likely by a margin so good running weather.  In the snowy winter months in Wisconsin training can be hard, so I wanted to share a short article that Craig Toerpe sent along that is really helpful in terms of thinking about strength training in the winter.  Be sure to give it a read.

I am hoping that your early parts of the New Year have been encouraging as you take on your fitness and health goals and make sure to have fun and give yourself grace on the road.  Wisconsin winters are not build for the best speed work, or perfect footing, and requires us to adapt and adjust our training regularly, so have fun with it!!! (Yes running up and down the Meekwon sled hill with children, and sleds is good cross training in case you wondered).

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head North on the “John Taylor Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.  Thanks to Doug for setting our the water buckets this week!!

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update January 11, 2018

Third time is a charm?

After back to back weeks that have been called off due to incliment weather, we are looking good to go for this weekend.  As we kick off the year, it is a time that many of you will set goals or sign up for races, and it made me think back to when I first became a runner.

For those of you watch the show, “Fixer Upper,” the name Chip Gaines is familiar, but for those of you who don’t Chip and his wife Joann are a uber popular couple who have their own show on HGTV.  Chip has signed up for running his first marathon, after meeting a professional runner a number of months ago.  I would encourage you to read his story, and remember your early miles, your first 5k, your first mile you ran without stopping.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Grafton Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update January 4th, 2018

Polar Vortex is the word of the day….

After cancelling our group run last Saturday for dangerously cold Wind Chill, the polar vortex has decided to hang around all week sadly.  Hopefully this has been a good time for you to rest up the legs, or do some cross training, or head to the gym to get some miles in.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the weather is questionable, but here is the plan.  We will plan to meet and run per usual, with the route below.  Watch social media and your email, as I will try to make a call if we need to cancel by Saturday dinner time.  We have no official cold weather policy, but last week was easy as there was Wind Chill advisories that said no more than 30 minutes of exposed skin outside.  If the WC is again in the advisory/warning range we will have no formal group run.  We are also working to establish a cold weather policy for ease of planning for all of you also.
