Weekly Update 3.5.2020

Good morning crew.

The weather appears to be really turning, and we are heading for some prime running days (Sunday the high is 60).  One things that is always important is that as the weather warms, ease your body back in, if you have taken a step back in the winter.  It is easy to get excited in the warm weather and ramp your miles so quickly that you find yourself achy and hurting.  Make sure to ramp those miles thoughtfully as your body readjusts to the workload.

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am head out on the “Kaehler’s Mill Route.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. As always plan to hang around for coffee and great conversation at Fiddleheads after our run.

Weekly Update 2.28.2020

Good morning crew.

It is that magic time of year when many of you start adding races to the calendar, and training programs ramp up for spring and summer races.  What I wondered today as I was out running is what do you have on your calendar? And more importantly what motivates you?  I know for some of you having a race is helpful to stay on track with training on the hard days.  I know for others races are a good accountability to see progress.  I also am getting more and more clear that although many of us don’t mind trying for a PR, that race results are not everything, nor do they reflect the breadth of all that you do.  So many of you log miles on early mornings, eat thoughtfully, recover with purpose and more.  I am challenging myself as I try yet again for a BQ (missed by 7 seconds last year) to enjoy the journey.  That what I learn on the journey of training and preparation is just as important to experience and learn from as the race.

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am head out on the “Grafton Route.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. As always plan to hang around for coffee and great conversation at Fiddleheads after our run.

Weekly Update 2.20.2020

This week let’s start with something fun to read.  Craig passed along a great link to an article on 12 Things that You’ll Only Hear Runners Say.It was this great reminder that we have own our vocabulary, and that many things we say often would make any normal person laugh (see anytime that you refer to what you just ran as ONLY any distance larger than the walk to your refrigerator).  As I read it I was both aware of how weird it must be to those new to running to hear the conversations (I am doing 6×800 tomorrow….say what?), and the incredible community that we can laugh and cry and curse weather, hills, and blisters with.  Thanks for sharing in this journey together crew!

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am head out on the “John Taylor Route.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. As always plan to hang around for coffee and great conversation at Fiddleheads after our run.

Weekly Update 2.13.2020

I want to begin by apologizing.  Last week I mentioned how the groundhog had things to say about winter and how much more we were going to have.  Since then we have gotten about 4-6 inches of snow and there is a wind chill advisory tomorrow morning, so my apologies.  Let us agree no more talk of weather, and we pray that spring just surprises us.  That being said bundle up, as it might still be cooler than usual for our Saturday morning run this weekend.

Weekly Update 2.5.2020

Good morning crew.  The groundhog claims that winter will come to an end soon, an that spring is not that far away….so whatever you want to take that to mean.  We are nearing the time of year that we all start ramping up miles and looking ahead at chance to toe the line and take on some races and some new running goals.  As always if you find something interesting pass it along who know if others in the group might not go run a race with you.

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am head out on the “MeeKwon Golf Course.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. Weekly Update 1.30.2020

Good morning crew.  The weather forecast for this weekend looks to again be incredible running temps.  I hope you have been able to enjoy the peaceful and quiet of running with all the snow covered trees and streets.  Thankful this we have not had many days where footing issues are part of the equation, so hoping that continues.

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am head out on the “Covered Bridge Route.” This is a route that we have run a few times, but be sure to check the map, it is about a 12 mile route, with a few places to shorten or lengthen the run.  As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. As always plan to hang around for coffee and great conversation at Fiddleheads after our run.

Weekly Update 1.22.2020

Welcome to Wisconsin winters.  After months of warm weather and no snow, ice and snow have deeply impacted our routes and even meeting the last two weeks.  At the moment weather looks ok for us to meet Saturday and have decent footing as we try for the third week in a row to run the same route (third time is a charm?)

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am and try again this week to head out on the “Grafton Route.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. Weekly Update 1.17.2020

Good morning crew.  It was strange not to see you all last week, but the choice to cancel seemed wise as I woke up to ice on Saturday.  Before we get to this week’s route I have a challenge. Nearly 100 of you get this email every week, and needless to say we don’t run with 100 people per weekend.  If you are getting this email, I am glad that you found Run Ozaukee and connected.  Here is my challenge.  Take one week in the next month to come out on a Saturday and try a run with us.  As someone who runs all of my weekday runs solo, having company on Saturdays is something that I look forward to.

Don’t worry about speed or distance.  Our group has a diversity of both those things most weeks. If you want to run 8-10 miles great, you also can come out and run 2-3 miles, just to see what our group is like.  Either way, I challenge everyone reading this note, to chose a week in the next month, come out on a Saturday at 7am and see what this group is all about, who knows you might get hooked like me, after trying out out on summer Saturday in 2012.

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am and try again this week to head out on the “Grafton Route.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. As always plan to hang around for coffee and great conversation at Fiddleheads after our run.

Weekly Update 1.9.2020

Good morning crew!  Hope our early runs in 2020 have been going well, and you have enjoyed this extended stretch that is unusually warm with little snow.  As you start the new year, I hope you can take some time to set some goals for fitness and wellness, that are not all time based.  It is great to have some time based goals (I am 7 seconds away from a BQ), but there is far more to the journey of distance running that what a stopwatch says.

WEEKEND RUN: We will meet in the Cedarburg Community Gym parking lot this Saturday at 7am then head out on the “Grafton Route.” As always there will be water and Gatorade on the route. To see the map click on “weekend run” and it will take you to our website with maps of many of our common routes. As always plan to hang around for coffee and great conversation at Fiddleheads after our run.
