Weekly Update 5.9.19

Are we skipping spring?

This was my son’s question the other day.  Between cold and rain he wondered if we are just going to magically enter into summer and skip spring all together.  Now in light of that the weather forecast for group this weekend is looking nice, so plan to join us for a few or more than a few miles.  I keep telling myself that warmer weather will eventually come, and it wont be long before shorts and long sleeves will be the attire for each run.

New mailing list: Each spring we update our mailing list, which makes sure that those who want to get our emails are kept in the loop, and that we have a waiver signed for each runner for our group.  Please sign up for our 2019 mailing list to make sure that you keep getting these weekly updates.  We will begin using the new mailing list June 10th, so please be sure you are signed up for the 2019 mailing list to be sure you keep getting these messages.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Cedar Creek Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update 5.1.19

Racing is Fun

This past weekend I worked at a water stop at the Deer Run, and cheered as Rosa, Linda, and Wanda all ran past (nice work by the way).  As I handed out water and cheered for the runners this much was clear to me: racing is fun.  The atmosphere, the adrenaline, the bibs, it’s a unique atmosphere that is hard to replicate in any other context. I share this as I watched a 5k/10k race past.  This incredible atmosphere to me is not based on number or runners or distance of race, or even the venue, but just that you are racing.
Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Cedarburg to WI Lutheran Seminary Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update 4.25.19

What motivates you?

The other day I was talking with a friend who recently signed up for their first 10k, and another who signed up for their first marathon, and when I asked what lead them to that decision both said the same: motivation.  They both shared that to have a race on the calendar gave them the motivation and accountability to get out there every week, to stay with it on days they are sore or tired, and to celebrate a tangible victory.  I wonder for you as the weather turns, what will motivate you this spring?  Do you need to get race on the calendar?  Commit to being a regular at our Saturday runs? Or something else?

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Fire Ridge Route.”  With the weather forecast being questionable, this route allows for us to adapt the length we run easily if needed due to weather.  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update 4.17.19

Run fast to run fast

A coach shared this simple but profound tip with me two years ago.  Her point, for me to get faster, I would need to not surprisingly run faster during my training runs.  I share this to say if you have not integrated speed work into your training, I would highly encourage it, not just to get faster, but for some variety, to keep things fresh.  Here is one example of an intro to speedwork.  Just something to try as the weather warms, and we no longer have to worry about ice and poor footing.

Group Run: We will meet at the Community Gym in Cedarburg 7am Saturday morning, and head out on the “Grafton Route.”  You can see the full route if you follow the group run link to our website.  There will be water and Gatorade on the route, but feel free to carry what you need also.  I am so excited to be joining you all this weekend, after has seemed like far too long.  Hope to catch up with many of you Saturday morning.

Per usual, hang around after our run for a cup of coffee at Fiddleheads!!!

Weekly Update 3.14.19

You can run in shorts?

Did it feel weird to anyone else to get out shorts and lighter layers to run in? It appears that at least our sub zero cold temps are numbered.  Hope that those training for spring races are doing well and staying healthy.  Hopefully a few more days over 32 and we can have some nice days to run with decent footing.

Group Run:  This week we will meet at the Cedarburg Community Gym at 7am per usual and head south on the bike path using the “Cedarburg to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Route.”  The route is almost 12 miles, and will have water and Gatorade along the route per usual.  There will also be a group meeting in the same starting location at 6:30am for a few extra miles early, for those interested.

We will gather at Fiddleheads afterwards for a cup off coffee, a muffin or whatever else if your post run ritual, as well as catch up on life and running.

Weekly Update 3.7.19

One day I will run in shorts again….

It appears that this weekend we may see the weather finally turn away from bitter winter towards at least moderate temps.  Saturday will still be a cooler run, with some wind, but trying to convince myself I can suck it up a little longer.  This also means that race season is almost upon us with some members of the group already preparing for April and May races! Stick with it, the weather will improve soon.
